This is not just a weightlifting gym.

We’re doing things to try to improve range of motion, to try to improve movement quality to try to prevent injuries and improve performance.

About me:

I am a certified strength and conditioning specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. After acting as an EastSide Centre sports performance coach with Al Nimmo for two stints covering almost six years, I opened Torq Fitness & Performance to realize my own vision for a highly-specialized training facility to help Peoria area athletes achieve their goals.

The big "aha" moment for me came after my two internships at University of Michigan. After my time in Ann Arbor I ventured out to Omaha to partner with a Postural Restoration Institute (PRI) physical therapist to study the study of postural restoration, especially as it applies to athletic movement and force . PRI was established in 2000 to explore and explain the science of postural adaptations, asymmetrical patterns and the influence of polyarticular chains of muscles. Translated… PRI gets to the core of the core of movement and force: Balance, Mobility, Strength, Coordination and Technique for optimal performance. This experience was like a huge lightbulb moment, and I immediately started implementing it into my own training, as well as in training clients.

If I had to summarize my approach to training in one sentence: Data-driven, assessment-based training that helps individualize each athletes needs to optimize performance.

After 6 great years at Eastside Centre I decided to open my own training facility, Torq Fitness & Performance, in 2020. I balance PRI training with traditional strength and conditioning. Athletes get the movement quality side as well as the movement quantity side, making strength and power gains but with the ability to apply it to the ground efficiently. This means less wasted energy, and less unnecessary time on the ground — translating to better performance and lower occurrence of injury.
